You’ve probably heard the phrase “SUP” – it’s the fastest growing paddle sport in the world – but have you tried it yourself? Stand Up Paddle Boards, or “SUPs” as they are commonly referred, have become an increasingly popular way of accessing various waterways: lakes, oceans, and, yes, even rivers. They might look a little intimidating at first, but in reality just about anyone will find that, with proper instruction, you can find yourself gliding across the surface of the water like a seasoned professional.
Last week we were joined on the Rogue River by one of Ashland’s own SUP pros – Steven Dahn, owner of Stand Up Ashland. Steven and his wife Laura started Stand Up Ashland in 2012. They primarily take their guests to Emigrant Lake, which is located just a few miles outside of Ashland. Aside from offering rentals and lessons, Stand Up Ashland also does special SUP tours such as SUP Yoga and Full Moon Paddle excursions (the next one is scheduled for June 23rd).
Stand Up Ashland’s standard tour costs $50.00 and lasts 90 minutes. It includes board and paddle rental, instruction from one of Stand Up Ashland’s staff, and digital photos from your time on the water.
