This past Friday a few of us here at Indigo Creek Outfitters decided to take advantage of a beautifully sunny day by floating Northern California’s North Fork of the Smith River.

The North Fork of the Smith is a one-day trip that covers roughly 10 miles within the Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area. From Ashland, Oregon, the drive to Gasquet, which is where the take-out is, takes about 2.5 hours. From Gasquet to the put-in is another 1.5 hours of dirt road. Despite the amount of driving, the North Fork is a true gem of a run. Unfortunately, it doesn’t normally run past May, which means the time is now if you want to see it.

Here’s a video of our run, check out that sun!
