About The Area

Union Creek is located in the Rogue River National Forest. Situated on the Rogue Umpqua National Scenic Byway, it’s just 23 miles from Crater Lake National Park.

With its sparkling blue water and breathtaking views, definitely make a side trip to Crater Lake when you’re at Union Creek.

The area also offers travelers the chance to visit Union Creek Resort, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been a favorite place to visit among numerous famous people including Zane Grey, Jack London and Herbert Hoover. It was also built on the Crater Lake Trail, which was used by pioneers as they crossed the Cascade Mountains.

If you want to extend your journey, Mt. Theilsen is located off of Highway 230, about 30 miles north of Union Creek Resort. Hike the trails to the top and enjoy fantastic views.

Hiking Opportunities Galore

Union Creek is also a haven for hikers, especially the Union Creek Trail.

Starting from the Union Creek Resort grounds, Union Creek Trail is a 12-mile hike which later converges at the Pacific Crest Trail. Along the way you will discover a variety of plant and animal life at every turn. As you gaze up at the 700-year-old Douglas Fir trees, don’t miss the marvelous waterfalls which feed into the creek.

And during the warmer months, grab your suit and swim! There’s a great swimming hole just a little ways from the resort that has calm waters for the kids to splash around in, and deeper ponds for the adults who want to swim.

Set Up Camp

If you want to reconnect with nature, then a camping trip is a must. Union Creek Campground is a beautiful site in the middle of an old growth forest, located west of Crater Lake National Park.

You’ll have plenty to explore while camping, including nearby hiking trails with easy access to the Union Creek and Upper Rogue River trails. There are three full service RV sites located outside of the campground entrance which are accessible on a dirt road (Road 390).
